about

Here is the second volume of Laurent's musical experiences from Wilde and Otisto 23.
This time, they're getting wings.

Let's quickly go back to the predicate: a piano, a computer. Laurent produces sounds on his instrument, keyboard of course, but also strings, felts, wood, metal, everything that scratches, rubs, rubs itself type, to provide an infinitely varied material that Otisto records in his computer on the fly, then loops, processes and mistreats before sending them back to Laurent, who reacts with new sounds, and so on, building the music as he goes along.

Enriched by their first album PC Pieces, de Wilde and Otisto take off towards the freedom acquired by the experience of the stage and the studio. More intuitive, their music now embraces more than
piano and more electronics, whether it's a Lost where the long repeated cadenza at the piano ventures into the machine's living filters, or a B Flat Seven where a note, a B-flat, serves as the sole source for a long seven-step technoid epic. The tracks follow one another, revealing a reactive, mobile, dependent computer, and a piano always thrifty and inspired.

From this encounter is born a deeply organic music, a dialogue of artists who deploy their antennas to stick as close as possible to this conversation which sometimes densifies into a ball of pure sound or refines itself until destructuring into fine fly legs.

The flies, precisely, very present in this recording. A herd of cows, transhumant near the country studio of La Fabrique where this album was recorded, were indeed travelling with their own colony of insects that quickly took over the room where the two musicians worked. Paying them homage with the title Eau de Mouche n°5, they quickly understood that these diptera by their incessant vibrations were influencing their whole repertoire.

A true hymn to flight, this FLY! invites us to listen within us to what escapes gravity, what dreams of rising higher in a rustle of wings, carried by the intimate and precious conversation of music with itself.

about

Laurent de Wilde & Otisto 23 Paris, France

Laurent de Wilde's piano as an exclusive sound source in duet with a computer that treats, mistreats and organizes the material addressed to him. Otisto 23 transforms the computer into an authentic instrument in concert with the piano. The universe created by this improbable encounter of the PC and the piano breathes the serenity of an inner journey that simply makes it accessible to all ears. ... more
